Deux ans après son mariage avec John James Preston, Carrie vit sagement auprès de son époux dans un bel appartement new-yorkais. L'ami gay des filles, Stanford Blatch, va convoler en justes noces avec son fiancé, le séduisant Anthony Marantino. Les quatre amies se rendent à la fête, qui met malheureusement en exergue les difficultés existentielles de chacune. Samantha tente désespérément de rester jeune tandis que Charlotte, dépassée par ses enfants, craint la concurrence de sa nourrice irlandaise. C'est alors que Samantha reçoit un coup de fil inattendu : Smith Jerrod se rappelle à son bon souvenir, lui proposant de faire la connaissance d'un milliardaire d'Abu Dhabi. Samantha pose une condition : que ses amies puissent venir avec elle...
